Tea Tree Essential Oil is extracted from the tea tree (Melaleuca alternifolia) plant native to Australia. It has sterilizing, astringent, and anti-inflammatory properties. It is used as a treatment for colds, coughs, rhinitis, asthma, dysmenorrhea, irregular menstruation, and genital infections. The antioxidant and cleansing properties make it one of the best oils for skincare. It is suitable for oily and acne-prone skin and can treat purulent wounds and burns, sunburn, athlete’s foot, and dandruff. It has a refreshing camphoraceous aroma, that clears the mind, rejuvenates, and fights depression. Application • Skincare: Due to its abundant antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, tea tree oil is used as a treatment for many skin woes, especially acne. It can regulate the secretion of oils and sebum on the skin and shrink the pores. You can use the oil by incorporating the following recipes into your routine.
  • Add 1-2 drops of tea tree essential oil to face cream and massage the cream into the skin. Alternatively, you can use it directly after mixing the essential oil with a base oil (olive oil, grapeseed oil, etc.) in a proportion (2ml base oil: 1 drop of unilateral essential oil).
  • Put 1-2 drops of tea tree oil in your concoction before soaking the compressed mask. Apply it to the face and let the oil absorb into the skin by resting it for about 10-15 minutes.
  • Introduce 3-4 drops of tea tree oil into a beauty steamer and let the oil get absorbed into the skin through the vapors.
  • Put a few drops of tea tree oil in your bathtub, and soak in it to make the skin fresh and smooth. You can also add 2 drops of the essential oil to warm water for a refreshing foot bath.
• Diffuse Aroma: Aromatherapy using tea tree essential oil can relieve physical and mental discomfort. The oil can help in dealing with aches, pains, and insomnia and boosts mood and mental clarity. It counters the negativity of the environment and is also known to fight airborne infections and bacteria. You can use an aroma lamp or diffuser by filling it with water and a few drops of tea tree essential oil. • Dandruff Treatment: The tea tree oil possesses anti-fungal properties and is slightly more acidic than the pH of the skin, which allows it to clear out flakes and dandruff. It also regulates the oil level on the scalp and shrinks the pores, inhibiting the growth of dandruff. It also has a calming effect on the skin and reduces itching and irritation on the scalp.
  • It is recommended to gently apply 10 drops of tea tree oil on the scalp before drying the hair after washing.
  • Alternatively, add 2-3 drops of essential oil to your shampoo while washing your hair.
• Treat Infections: Certain chemical compounds in tea tree fight against viruses, bacteria, and fungi. This can help to treat a variety of skin conditions and promote healing. A few of the infections that are remedied by tea tree are:
  • Athlete’s foot – Add 1 drop of tea tree oil to a pot of hot water and soak your feet for 10 minutes. Dry your feet and apply tea tree oil topically to the affected area.
  • Onychomycosis – Some molds can grow in the nails. With clean hands, apply 1-2 drops of tea tree oil to the affected area. The essential oil can penetrate deep into the skin and heal the infection.
  • Vaginitis & Cystitis- Add 3 drops of tea tree essential oil and 4 drops of rosemary essential oil, and take a sitz bath in a basin of 3 kg of hot water for 15 minutes.
  • Otitis – Mix 3 drops of tea tree oil with 1 teaspoon of olive oil and dip a piece of cotton into it. Put the cotton ball in the ear cavity and massage the remnants around the ear and neck.
  • Seborrheic dermatitis (or ringworm of the groin)- Add tea tree oil to your shower gel and use it to wash the affected area. Thereafter, apply diluted tea tree oil to the affected area and massage a little. The oil has an antibacterial and soothing effect that penetrates deep into the skin and can relieve redness, swelling, and itching. General ointments often contain steroids making tea tree oil a safer and more effective option for your body.
• Healing: Tea tree essential oil has a natural hemostatic function and can penetrate deep into the skin. The application of the oil can reduce inflammation and soothe irritated skin.
  • Rub 1-2 drops of tea tree essential oil on the affected area so that the wound can heal quickly while preventing bacterial re-infection.
  • In the case of Gout, add 1 drop of tea tree oil to hot water and soak your feet for 10 minutes. Dry your feet thoroughly and then apply tea tree oil diluted in a base oil to the affected area.
  • The oil can also relieve muscle soreness. When taking a bath, add 10 drops of tea tree oil to hot water and soak in it for at least 10 minutes. Apply diluted tea tree oil to the sore area afterward for enhanced results.
  • You can also apply 1-2 drops of tea tree essential oil (avoid massaging it) on mosquito and bug bites to reduce itching and inflammation.
  • For minor burns, apply 1-2 drops of tea tree essential oil to the affected area after brewing it with ice or cold water to help reduce inflammation.
• Improves Respiratory System: For nasal congestion, bronchitis, or any other respiratory problems, prepare a bowl of boiling water and add a few drops of tea tree essential oil.
  • Close your eyes and inhale the steam through your nose at a distance of 25-30cm from the water for at least 5 minutes to make your breathing smooth and your mind fresh.
  • Alternatively, put 2 drops of tea tree essential oil and 3 drops of eucalyptus essential oil with 1 drop of geranium essential oil in the aromatherapy stove for steaming.
  • If you’re running a Fever, add 10 drops of tea tree essential oil to hot water and soak in it for at least 10 minutes. After taking a bath, make sure to rest in bed immediately.
• Resist Diseases: The most important use of tea tree is to help the immune system resist infectious diseases, instigate white blood cells to form a protective line to fight against invading organisms, and shorten the time of illness. It is a powerful antibacterial essential oil. This effect can be achieved through inhaling diffused tea tree molecules or by bathing in tea tree-infused warm water. • Household Hygiene: Tea tree possesses antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiseptic antiviral, and antifungal properties. It naturally removes odor-causing bacteria to clean the air.
  • Add a few drops of tea tree essential oil and let the aroma diffuse in the room for 5-10 minutes to purify the bacteria, viruses, and mosquitoes in the air.
  • The oil can also eliminate peculiar smells. Add 2 drops of tea tree essential oil to 100 ml of water and shake it thoroughly to mix it. Then spray it on the areas with a peculiar smell. Take a wrung-out tea bag and add 2-3 drops of tea tree oil and 2-3 drops of three-in-one and place it in the refrigerator for odor control.
  • It is also a useful tool for Household cleaning. Add 5-6 drops of tea tree essential oil to a bucket of clean water and use it to wash rags, dishes, floors, tables, etc. It helps to sterilize and eliminate dirt.
